Kia ora koutou,
Ko Maungakiekie te Maunga, Ko Manukau te Whanga, No Tāmaki Makarau ahau, Ko Julia Sekula tōku ingoa.
I joined Council in October 2019, becoming Chair in 2020. I have been actively involved with Dietitians NZ across my career within local branches and various sub-committees. I am committed to ensuring equity across the work we do as dietitians and in advocating the role that we have in improving the health of New Zealanders. As Tangata Tiriti, I am doing all that I can to be an ally to our Māori dietitians, Māori students and those we work with to help achieve this.
I bring to Council over 15 years’ experience as a Dietitian predominately in medical nutrition therapy (in Auckland, the Waikato and London) and more recently, in education at The University of Auckland. I provide clinical leadership within the medical nutrition therapy domain of the MHSc (Nutrition & Dietetics), manage our student-led clinics and am a member of the Clinics Governance Committee; I have research interests in interprofessional education and effectiveness of practice. I am pleased to represent our members as a Dietitians NZ Council member and encourage members to reach out at any time to myself or any of the other Council members.
